The Coronation Kings

The Coronation Kings are a five piece band from the East of the UK in the Norwich area, writing and performing original music with a cross-genre style that mixes the old with the new. The band consist of  John Hickleton, Richard Barrett, Mark Holmes Frank Morrow and Paul Hale and as a band they tick each and every one of the boxes that need ticking.

They ask on their website what do you get when you put together a light weight indie singer and some hard hitting rockers... Well, quite simply you get The Coronation Kings and as they take you on a journey through their live sets of self penned original material you can be assured of a genre hopping powerhouse of tracks and if you are willing to take aleap of faith and follow them, it will be a leap that will be rewarded in full!

Their music just works so damned well and as a group they have come together well for their debut album Cathel & Me. It is genuinely a fantastic album, so much so it became my album of the year for 2018/2019 and hearing the guys belt out the songs live with as much passion and power, if not more, than that of the album is a joy to behold. Due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020 however and the pandemic that followed worldwide, the band are like many other artists out there and are waiting for a chance to get back out there doing what the do so well and I for one will be right there once again! If you've never had a chance to see them live make sure to add it to your list of things to do as soon as normality returns to the music world, you really won't be dissapointed.

The guys are driven by the love of just playing, along with the art of song writing, and boy it shows. When they visited Smart Radio I asked them what was next, after the release of their debut album, and they said there were no plans as for now they just wanted to play what they had written so far and to enjoy the album and who could blame them? The album and their live sets are superb and it was and is a joy to hear what they have put together and be at the album launce. Yes there will be more from them and yes they will return to the live scene in full when they can and yes their shows will be a sell out, for they are quite simply that good.
